The Sculpture
A physical, one-of-a-kind LED-illuminated sculpture — designed from your inputs developed in the Inspiration Brief and 3D printed specifically for you. No two pieces are ever the same.
While size and shape are not entirely consistent, most sculptures will have a base around 11 × 11 inches and a height of about 24 inches, giving a pleasing visual ratio. Some can be printed up to 30 inches tall if that's where the design leads us. For a visual reference, think of a medium to large lamp on an end table. That would generally represent the approximate size of your new sculpture. Too small to stand alone on a floor, but too large to be placed on a desk. These sculptures would be very well suited for placement on a console table in an entryway, a buffet table or credenza in a dining room, or a built-in niche in a hallway. If a lamp would fit there nicely, your new sculpture likely would too.
Sculptures are made with a 3D printer filament called PETG. It is very close in material properties to the clear water bottles we are so familiar with from our daily lives. Colors often include matte white and several opaque and transparent options throughout the color spectrum. Texture, color, sheen, and transparency vary greatly and are highly dependent on the unique design of your sculpture. It will also come with internal LED lighting components custom fit and built into each design.
Yes. After the design of your sculpture is established, professional grade 3D printers are used to create the physical object which will become your sculpture. Without 3D printers, this entire process could not exist. They are simply a tool in my toolkit that allows your sculpture to materialize from only an idea.
Yes, as one tool among many. AI-assisted image generation helps transform information from the Inspiration Brief into dozens of visual concepts early in the design process. The complexities of several layers of inputs are interpreted with AI to steer the expression of each sculpture. This is a very thorough, personal process. Those visual concept images are narrowed down and iteratively refined with my artistic direction, and then developed into a 3D model. When properly performed, your art should speak to you directly, masking any evidence of AI.
A great deal of human interaction is involved. From interpretation of the original Inspiration Brief, to the 2D concept image editing, to the 3D digital model refinement, to the digital painting and material assignments, it quite an intense human-defined process. Nothing leaves the studio without significant hands-on creativity — artistic direction, substantial digital design, extensive 3D modeling, digital painting, transparency evaluations, assembly, lighting design, and finish prep among other development, are all done by hand.
Yes. Internal LED lighting is standard on every commissioned piece. It's my belief that light itself is an art form — lighted sculptures create intrigue, curiosity, and depth, while even lighting the walls surrounding them in fascinating ways. The unique ability of 3d printed art allows the creation of designs with integral led lighting systems in nearly unlimited ways. Most sculptures will have some transparent aspect in the materials allowing light to transfer through, best highlighted through internal lighting. All LED lighting kits have a white setting, as well as color, brightness, and mode options.
Yes. The sculpture will come with a 110v US power supply for LED lighting, plus remote.
All sculptures are designed for use as indoor display pieces only. The materials (as well as internal electronics) are not intended for permanent outdoor exposure. They could warp or deform in unintended environments, especially thin unsupported features. To achieve longevity of the form and colors of your sculpture, it's recommended to position it indoors, out of direct sunlight, and well away from any heat source. Remember, there will only be one of your sculpture. Please position it wisely, as you would any precious artwork.
Generally speaking, our sculptures are designed as freestanding pieces only. The visual impact of a 3D sculpture allows significant freedom of design, suiting this process very well. I do understand the desire for wall art and will consider this on an individual basis. Simply note this preference in the text field of the Inspiration Brief. Even as wall art, there should be an expectation of 3D depth.
Process & Timeline
It's simply making some choices in an online decision tool — the Inspiration Brief. No artistic or technical experience needed. This tool is uniquely designed to uncover the ideas, influences, emotions, and memories of your vision. It becomes the foundation for your design. The soul of your sculpture. Look at the place you would put this sculpture. Envision your friends and family surrounding it. Think of the message you want it to convey. What memory will be invoked in this work? Your mind should be calm, focused, undistracted. Feel the essence of your new sculpture in your home. And begin. Take your time — I recommend allocating 20–30 minutes to complete the Inspiration Brief. This will allow enough clarity to fully convey your message, meaning, vision, and inspiration into the design. The more information you provide, the more visible it will be in the work. This is your sculpture... let your vision shine through.
Go to the place you would most like your new sculpture to reside. Look at the walls, the floor, the lighting, the traffic flow. Ask yourself, What do I want people to FEEL when they first see my sculpture? Should it blend in, or stand out? Do I want to talk about the story that defines this sculpture, or is it for my own enjoyment and satisfaction? Is there a mood, emotion, inspiration, memory, event, person, location, timeframe, or culture that the sculpture should convey in this space? Once you've considered this and feel comfortable proceeding, it's time to start.
Upon completing the Inspiration Brief (initiation of the commissioned work), a confirmation email will be provided noting the estimated start date of your design. This is based on current backlog of commissioned work. You'll receive an email (or two) stating the Design Consultation date and time, with a link to join, within a week or two of the estimated start date. Your confirmation of the meeting notice is requested but not required — I'll be there waiting for your participation regardless. A follow-up email will be sent if the meeting is missed. No further work begins until after the Design Consultation.
Let's back up just a touch. The online Inspiration Brief initiates the commissioned work process, and allocates your position in the schedule. That locks in the order in which I'll start your work. This is followed by the Design Consultation. Concept design work will be well underway by the time of the Design Consultation. Major decisions are still very flexible at this point. The Design Consultations are primarily conducted online via Google Meet (preferred), or alternatively via email exchange. A link to the meeting with the time slot will be sent to the email you provided. Design Consultations are typically in the late afternoon or evenings. This will likely be our first face to face introduction. As an artist and social introvert, I promise this will be more uncomfortable for me than for you. Dozens of concept images will have been created by this point. I will reduce that to a narrow top three to top five, or so and present them to you. The intent is to then decide from the concept images which one will become the primary design to move forward with. It's possible that we decide a chosen image is close but needs to be refined, and we reconvene at a later date. Or... all concepts are rejected and I start over (I hope that doesn't happen often). Once we choose a concept to build, I'll take it to the next phase of the design. You decide how much interaction you would like to have from here on out. If we decide to discuss further, I'll send a new meeting link. See, isn't this fun?
No Problem. A live consultation is not required. A complete, fully written, well-established Inspiration Brief alone could provide all the information I need to complete your sculpture — this relinquishes you from the design process entirely if you like. If you still want to be involved just not face-to-face, we can work through email exchange. I'll offer basic choices for you to choose from, and we can work through email as much as you like. Having all decisions documented is actually helpful. Otherwise, you may choose to not even be involved in the design process, and you acknowledge that you trust me to provide design decisions and complete the project with no further guidance. Either way, the end goal is a truly meaningful sculpture that's personal to you.
It's a long process to develop each sculpture. I anticipate each sculpture to take 6 to 8 weeks to complete from start to finish. Typical start times are 3 to 4 weeks after receiving the completed Inspiration Brief — so most completed sculptures ship 2 to 3 months after commission placement. There is however much overlap where multiple pieces are being worked on in parallel, so there is a bright side where with the perfect circumstances, a commissioned sculpture could be completed in under 2 months. It simply depends on backlog and overlap potential. As an independent artist, backlogs do form. In the event of a backlog, your start time is based on your position in the work schedule, and you'll be informed of that position via email shortly after initiation. No commissions are taken if the backlog exceeds one year, so maximum delivery time is 15 months.
Yes. See the timeline answer above — your position in the schedule is communicated shortly after you submit your Inspiration Brief.
Pricing & Ordering
Pricing is provided on the home page. Our simple pricing strategy makes things very clear — one price, one sculpture. The only exception would be for limited run sculptures.
Yes. A deposit is required for all work. This deposit also secures your place in line when there is a backlog. You may also pay in full at initial order placement. Our checkout page has more details.
Yes. Our checkout system allows for use of third-party companies such as Affirm, Klarna, and Afterpay as your payment processer. With these options payments can be extended as much as 24 months depending on service provider. Kralaxy Design will be paid in full; the buyer is responsible for making payments to the provider.
Art is a subjective experience. It's visual and emotional impact depend entirely on the perspective of the observer. Your sculpture design will progress through several digital concepts in the "inspiration" phase. You will have opportunity to see and approve the design direction before fabrication begins. In addition, you are more than welcome to stay involved throughout the fabrication phase, right up to final assembly, packing and shipping. I can keep you informed as much as you like so there are no surprises once delivered. While deposits are non-refundable, the preference is, of course, to achieve the perfect design solution for your sculpture. If you're still not satisfied upon delivery, options would be discussed for complete resolution. The desired outcome is for your complete satisfaction with the effort and the result.
Kralaxy Design will ship your sculpture only to the continental United States. Shipping is free of charge. We have decided to provide this service to you as a valued collector. These unique sculptures of various sizes, weights, and packaging requirements, make it difficult to consistently estimate. The ever-changing variables of expensive air freight, risky handling, complex legalities, hidden fees, and foreign taxes prevent us from offering our sculptures internationally at this time. Likewise for non-contiguous regions of the United States. We will consider updating our business model for international shipping as business needs change. Our checkout page automatically allows shipping only to the "Lower 48" states.
Care & Details
Keep it out of direct, prolonged sunlight and away from high heat, as the printed material can soften, warp, or discolor over time. Dust gently with a feather-duster or soft, dry cloth. Handle any lighting cord/connection with care.
Yes — an artist's inscription and the Kralaxy Design logo are part of every sculpture. Typical placement is on the bottom face, or what would be considered the rear surface, and may vary based on design.
About Kralaxy Design
I know... you really liked the sculpture I just made and want one for yourself. I get it, but this works a little differently. My vison is to offer only unique sculptures that start with the collector's input. The whole reason this business exists is to start with the buyer's desires, and build with new tools that we've never had available before. The process is set up so the end result is a sculpture with soul, emotion, and personal value to the owner. When I've done my job right, each individual should feel a connection to their own sculpture. That just can't happen with mass-produced "art". Each commissioned sculpture is exclusive to the originally intended collector. No exceptions. With that said, please understand that I may from time to time produce limited run sculptures as discussed below, but limited run sculptures are not commissioned work. Each commissioned sculpture begins with a different person, story, vision, and set of ideas — there is no template, there is no production line. No version of your artwork exists anywhere else, and never will.
All commissioned sculptures are one-off entities that will never be replicated. By creating separate limited run designs, I gain the ability to generate physical art for gallery events and brand awareness opportunities. Limited edition runs allow Kralaxy Design to improve the design, fabrication, and assembly processes, while also creating marketing material, at no risk to commissioned work. This means we only provide the highest quality sculpture directly to you. Limited runs designs are done only on rare occasions and are not part of the overall business model.
While Kralaxy Design specializes in bespoke sculptures where every piece begins as a custom commissioned work, on rare occasions we may have limited run articles available. Please check the “Available Now” section of this site.
